 PLANET
PLANTS is a small, mail-order nursery located near Reno, Nevada
at an altitude of 4,500 feet, just a few thousand feet below
the local timberline. We specialize in mountain and desert
plants from Western North America and similar climates around
the globe. Our coldest winter temperatures are in the 0 to
10o F range (U.S. Dept. Agric. Hardiness Zone 7). We overwinter
all of our plants in an unheated greenhouse and many will
withstand much colder temperatures. |
Most of our plants are also drought-hardy
and require only occasional watering once established. Reno
has an average annual precipitation of less than 8 inches,
so providing plants for low water-use landscapes that don’t
compromise on beauty is one of our goals. Our plants are
grown from seed or propagated by cuttings or layering. Many
of the plants we offer are grown from seed we collected
in the Great Basin and Sierra Nevada, but we also obtain
seed through seed exchanges and commercial dealers.
